We judge by personality, and just how tuff you really are so don't hesitate to find out what character from S.E.Hintons novel 'The Outsders' is right for you.

So it's been awhile since my last post. I'm not really not sure what to talk about. How about the fact that I was in a car crash?
We were driving home during a blizzard and the wind blew us off the road. The van went into the ditch end first causing it to do a cart-wheel before resting upside down in the snow. Pretty freaky but no one in the vehicle got hurt. I had to miss school to get my stuff out of the van the next day and then I some how got the flu -_-, basically mother nature flipping me the bird. It doesn't really matter because I'm feeling better now. My necks still a little sore and it's been a week since the accident, nothing serious but it keeps nagging at me. I was worried about my laptop on monday because I didn't know if it had broke or not. The Laptop is what I type my story's onto and I had no back up files for my chapters (still don't... I should probably do that sometime.) Thankfully it wasn't broken and neither were my other belongings. The windshield was smashed to bits, I think the entire van needs work.
Other than that I'm fine, well that's not entirely true. I can't seem to write my chapter without it feeling un-natural. The words just don't flow like they usually do and I'm starting to panic a little. I'm on Chapter. 7 and every thing seems to be going well with the plot but I just can't find that little spark that keeps me writing. Music usually keeps the gears going but it's not turning the crank for me right now. Maybe taking a little break from it would help but I'm not so sure. I haven't read all of "The Chronicles of Narnia" yet so maybe I should start reading that again. Although reading might just distract me. I'll probably end up sketching a few concept drawings for my book. Might post some of them up if the old scanner works.
I only went to school on friday last week so I have a lot of homework
Anyways thanks to those who read this post. Comments are more than welcome.

I hate colds especially head colds. I have one right now and it sucks; literally. I can feel it sucking the energy out of me. Though that's not why I'm writing. Recently I read a post on a blog that very plainly stated to teen writers and I quote
'
1. The Bad News: Right Now, Your Writing Sucks.'
As you can probably imagine he's gotten plenty of harsh complaints but the fact is that he actually had some good points on writing. Yes saying you're writing sucks is harsh and maybe he should have toned it down a bit (How about Most teen writings suck?) but lets face it when people start writing it's usually not a masterpiece on the first try. Writing takes practice and you have to work at it. I mean really people you can dream on having your book published all you want but you have to write the thing first. Even then you got to read it over and over to make sure it's the best thing you can produce. I've seen a lot of my class mates get mad because they thought their writing deserved 100% instead of 75% but if you scribble something out and call it art what is there to defend? If you want to write then practice makes perfect.
Another point he addressed was that experience makes a good writers. I don't really believe that. I'm more of a 'Practice makes perfect' kind of girl. Exactly how are you going to get experience as a writer if you don't write like one. No I'm not saying 'copy your favorite author' I'm saying you can get experience by practicing and tweaking your writing technique. There are plenty of books out in your book shop right now that will probably help you. My copy of 'The Complete handbook Of Novel Writing by Meg Leder, Jack Hefferon and the editors of Writers Digest.' has been helping me out a lot lately. Professional adivice can always lend a helping hand. It just a suggestion but I definitely recommend finding a resource book for your self. As a Teen we have time to learn and we can learn. No you don't have to depend on time to find your literary voice I'm saying we're young and we can work at getting better at our writing. Plain and simple yes we're young but we can write if want to.
Now apparently another reason teen writing sucks is because we copy our favorite authors. That claim got me really mad but none the less I kept writing. As if S.E.Hinton copied an idea for 'The Outsiders' but enough complaining or I'm going to go off on a rant. Sure some people do copy their favorite authors. It's called fanfiction don't try to pass it as your original work. You'll run into a lot of legal issues. Now trying to explain how to write a book that is really yours is hard to explain. Well harder than it sounds. If you have a story idea good but is it cliche? Every aspiring writer has to watch that. Adults and teens are on the same boat when it comes to trying to fend off the dreaded cliche aspect. You can google several lists on cliches.
One thing I had to agree with is that there's a difference between being clever and being good. You need to find the difference and you need to learn when it's good to be clever or when you just got to be good.
Now with a small little update John Scalzi posted in 6/18/07 most people stopped reading right their. Mostly because they decided to scroll down the page until they reached the reply window. Don't do that! Finish reading and take some advice the guys a professional writer and obviously knows a few tricks of the trade.
Now back to the actual article.
2. The Good News: It’s Okay That Your Writing Sucks Right Now.
I couldn't help but laugh a bit at that. Mainly because I thought 'You're fat but don't worry there's Jenny Craig.' but it was three in the morning and just about anything was funny to me. Getting a little off track. At this section of the article Scalzi talks of how you're not going to write a best seller first try just because you want to. It takes work, lot's of work. I can't stretch the work part enough because it is the essential part about writing. Sorry but that's the cold hard fact. Just because your writing might not be at it's best right now doesn't mean it won't improve. Every best-selling Author was once a dreamer writing what they hoped was a master piece. Now saying that, I don't mean that you have to wait until you get better I'm saying work to improve and you will be better. If you screw up well everyone does but learn from your mistakes instead of pouting.
3. You Need to Write Every Day.
People should already know that I'm on the same page with this. A book doesn't write it self so get to work word by word, sentence by sentence, page by page, chapter by chapter it will be worth it. Blogging can be good practice (at least I'm trying it out) but don't use it to avoid writing your story. I never heard the term 'Cat Vacuuming' until I read the article but it basically means ' Quit Procrastinating'. It's probably not looking so good for me since I'm writing this response article but I don't really get many opportunities to express what I think makes good writing. So don't procrastinate just write.
4. I’m Not Going to Tell You to Get Good Grades, But, You Know, Try To Pay Attention.
You can learn in school. Use it since it's free advice. Unless your in college and university then you really should pay attention since moneys being spent for your benefit. I'd like to say now that I'm proud of my A+ in english and I would bow if you could see it.
5. Read Everything You Can Get Your Hands On — Even the Crap That Bores You.
If you need help with grammar suck it up and read a book that helps with grammar. Yes you may want to fall asleep but if it's going to help then don't complain because it will be worth it in the long run. Though that wasn't really his point. If you find a book that's a world renowned best seller read it to find out why. Even if you don't like the book itself and it bores you to death it's important to learn from it. If you think you can write better than them then write your book and get it published. Really if they get published how hard can it be. It's not really that simple but it proves there's hope for us all. Analyze the book and find it's pro's and it's cons. What works for the book and what could be better. If it helps become your own book critic. After all there's a critic in all of us.
6. You Should Do Something Else With Your Life Than Just Write.
Sure you want to write a book but don't forget to live. If your like me you got school work and social problems to deal with. You might even have a job and with all the stuff you'll need to write your book your going to need cash. Also if you don't interact with other people how will you know how they act? Get an english major from college you'll learn something about writing. Just get out and do something that can be considered productive. Just because you want to write something good doesn't mean the rest of your life should stop. Be practical and you'll be successful.7. Try to Learn a Little About the Publishing Industry.
If you want to get published you need to know how it all works. The Writers Market is a huge book that will probably give you all the information you need and it costs about 40$ (depends on where you get it) sure that's a big price tag for one book but some Authors swear it's well worth it. I plan to get my own copy very soon. Also do a few searches online and you're bound to find a whole load of links. Watch for any scams because they are there and waiting. Scalzi explains it much better but that's my version in a nut shell.
8. Be Ready For Rejection.
Every writer will get a rejection slip so don't take it personally. Harry Potter and Twilight got rejected many times before some one decided they would want to see it on a book shelf. Some rejection slip will give you advice and really take it to heart because it usually helps. Some times it will seem hard but just think 'I'll show you what your rejecting!' show them that it's a great book whether they like it or not. Keep a sense of humor one rejection letter will advise you one way and another rejection slip will suggest the exact opposite. All you can do is laugh. Remember the rejection slips are not about you they are about your work. You can get rejected for many different reasons. Keep trying because someone is bound to like it.
9. Start Getting Published Now — Yes, That Means the School Newspaper.
No it doesn't have to be a school newspaper but it will help. Submit some short stories to a magazine. Participate in writing contests. Make you self known and get your name out there. It will help you deal with many aspects of writing such as editors and yes some one can reject your work in the little league to. It's good practice and you're bound to learn something.
10. Work on Your Zen.
Translational - Don't let the stress get to you. Relax and write how you want to. Personally listing to music in my room while typing away at my laptop that doesn't have internet access keeps me on track and calm. Make a system for your self it helps. Find a calm space and just tune into your story. You don't have to be the best by the time your 25 just write what comes naturally. One thing he forgot to mention but is obvious to most if not all writers. Have fun! Writing is an adventure make your happy ending a reality.
So that's what I thought of his article. Sure he came off as harsh at the beginning but it's definitely worth it to read the article so check it out and remember he's not trying to discourage future authors.

First I'll explain the title. Basically it labels the updates in my life like #1 is my first post about it.
Well I'm writing chapter five of my book and lets just say it's been going slow. My winter holiday starts in 2 days and I'm damn near buried in homework. I haven't even gotten page 1 of Ch.5 finished! Well it's not all bad I'm slowly piecing together a system that's been working for now. I need to clean my room when I get home so that I can have everything organized. I want to get some nice ball point pens from staples to jot down ideas. My budget is focused on college and writing. I can't even buy books! Thank the world for libary's. I've signed Eclipse out but I haven't started it. To tell you the truth I don't really like Twilight. But my friends do so I might as well finish it. Bella bugs me but I think it's okay I guess.
My sister who's 2 years younger than me is being a selfish brat again. She put two cell phones on moms credit card and spent 300$ and my mom's been in debt since summer so my sisters little stunt is not helping at all. I wouldn't be surprised if my sisters ends up causing mom to lose her new house. So I'm not speaking to her because I know I'll be to annoyed to stand her 'let's talk about me' personality. My brothers acting like an ass. He's always swearing at me and calling me stupid. I'm getting A's and B's and he's practically failing so you decide if he's right.
I still need to figure out what to get my family for Christmas but I think I've got a good idea for it. I'm really just worrying about my parents presents and my youngest sister (six years younger). Either way I'm hoping this Christmas didn't go like last years. My little brother was picking fights with everyone. I'm going to be writing and doing some reading so I hope I get something accomplished.

Well I love writing, No, I'm obsessed with writing. To me it's the greatest thing in the world. When I write about my own fictional characters, creatures and heck an entire fictional world I can't help but love it. I could see myself writing all my life and that's what I plan to do. I want to be a novelist and I've already started my first book. A fantasy adventure. No I won't write like the Authors I read. Truthfully I find writing in someone else's style is confining. Writing my own fiction gives me endless boundaries, something I can't find in real life.
Aside from writing I do have a life. It may not be much but it's the only one I got right? My parents are separated, I'm the eldest child. When I lived with my mother she would abuse me. I'd rather not get into detail about that. I stayed there for three months before I moved to live with my dad. That was when I was ten and I've been living with my dad ever since. My sister who is two years younger than me acts like my worst enemy at times the same goes for my whole family (and some of my friends.)
I made this blog so I could let off steam. I won't be using the names of the people I know. I don't think that would be right. No I won't be posting chapters of my book. Some book companys' consider the Chapters published.
Anyways gotta go the Chapters don't write themselves! I'll fill in stuff about my life later on and I'll give tips for other aspiring writers.
